Description from the seller
Ottoman Islamic Silver Ring with Engraved Lapis Lazuli Intaglio – 17th to 19th Century AD
An Ottoman Islamic silver finger ring set with a large rectangular lapis lazuli intaglio engraved with a figurative scene, apparently depicting a seated human figure. The substantial silver mount features broad shoulders richly decorated with engraved scrolling, vegetal and geometric motifs, framing the deep blue stone within a raised rectangular bezel. The combination of figurative gemstone carving and elaborate silver ornamentation reflects the decorative traditions of later Islamic jewellery associated with the Ottoman cultural sphere. The piece preserves extensive age-related wear, oxidation and surface deposits, while the engraved decoration and vivid colour of the lapis lazuli remain clearly visible.
