Binji mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Carved wood with pigment. A mask with a boldly defined face, featuring protruding, tubular eyes and a prominent nose, framed by full, sculpted cheeks. The lightly open mouth is accentuated by a band of pigment. The conical headdress is crowned by a perforated, cylindrical projection for hanging the mask and is decorated with incised geometric patterns. At the lower edge are traces of the original attachment of the fiber costume. Fine dark patina, glossy in places. Condition: Good.

Binji-masker, Democratische Republiek Congo. Gesneden hout met pigment. Een masker met een krachtig vormgegeven gezicht, voorzien van uitstekende, buisvormige ogen en een prominente neus, omlijst door volle, gemodelleerde wangen. De licht geopende mond wordt geaccentueerd door een band van pigment. Het kegelvormige hoofddeksel wordt bekroond door een geperforeerd, cilindervormig uitsteeksel om het masker op te hangen en is versierd met ingesneden geometrische patronen. Aan de onderrand zijn sporen zichtbaar van de oorspronkelijke bevestiging van het vezelkostuum. Fraaie donkere patina, op sommige plekken glanzend. Conditie: Goed.
