Description from the seller
Exceptional French centerpiece (also ideal as a serving dish or vegetable server). This piece perfectly blends the understated elegance and luster of classic metalwork with the warmth of traditional glazed ceramic; it is ideal for both functional use and as a standout piece in high-end décor.
-Origin: France.
-Style: Art Deco with classical transitional elements (late Neoclassical style), typical of the first half of the 20th century (circa 1920s–1940s).
-Material: Silver-plated Alpaca alloy (technically known in France as *Maillechort* or German Silver). Includes an inner ceramic/terracotta bowl with a chocolate-brown glaze.
-Marks: Features the authentic "ALPACA" stamp in two key locations: on the top of the lid and on the upper inner rim of the pierced tray.
-Technique and ornamentation:
*Tray/Base: Geometric openwork along the perimeter adds visual lightness; finished with two elegant cast side handles featuring classic-style scrolls and acanthus leaves.
*Lid: Mirror-polished smooth surface topped with a beautiful cast finial or knob shaped like three acorns intertwined with oak leaves—a classic symbol of longevity and strength.
-Condition: Shows damage, signs of use, and patina consistent with its age and the accompanying photos. The ceramic is free of cracks, and the piece is ready for use.
-Dimensions:
*Total diameter (including handles): 36 cm
*Lid diameter: 31.5 cm
*Base diameter: 32cm
*Total height (base + lid + knob): 15 cm
*Knob height (finial): 4 cm
*Height of the pierced base: 8 cm
*Height of the base with the lid: 11 cm
-Versatility and uses: This centerpiece stands out for its remarkable versatility, suiting both modern and classic interiors:
*As a serving dish: Its ceramic inner vessel is ideal for keeping stews, legumes, or roasts warm at the table, while the pierced base protects delicate surfaces from direct heat.
*As a decorative piece: When placed in the center of a sideboard, dining table, or display cabinet, its polished lid catches the light, creating a sophisticated focal point.
*Independent use: The pierced nickel-silver base can be used separately as an elegant openwork tray or as an open fruit bowl when paired with the ceramic insert.
A magnificent piece that embodies the quality of European tableware—ideal for collectors or enthusiasts of functional antiques.
