Description:

Exquisite crisóphine-style sculpture from the Art Deco era (c. 1920-1930) depicting the expressive figure of a fool or jester in a dynamic, theatrical pose. The character, dressed in his characteristic tight suit and a bobble hat in a brilliant golden hue, proudly holds a small carved owl.

The face and exposed hands are rendered in an ivory-toned composite material, achieving a superb chromatic contrast and capturing a sly grin of great realism, very typical of master sculptors of the period such as Demetre Chiparus or Gerdago.

The piece rests impeccably on an elegant two-material cylindrical base of veined green marble and a black lower plinth, which streamlines the figure and gives it a strong decorative presence.
