Sedes Sapientiae – Mary with Child after Henri Bouriché – polychrome plaster – France – early 20th century

Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star reviews worldwide.

Religious sculpture of Mary with Child after a design by the French sculptor Henri Bouriché (1826–1906). The crowned Mary holds the Christ Child close to her. The child rests with closed eyes against her shoulder and places a hand on her chest. The piece bears the title Sedes Sapientiae, Latin for Seat of Wisdom. The figures are draped in long robes with deep folds.

Height 52 cm; polychrome painted plaster with gilded details and the inscription “SEDES SAPIENTIAE” on the front of the pedestal, in good overall condition with normal signs of aging.
