Giovanni Varlese - Statue, Pescatorello - 41 cm - Bronze, Marble - 1910

Magnificent and guaranteed authentic early 20th-century Italian bronze sculpture, titled "Pescatorello" (The Little Fisherman), designed by the renowned Neapolitan artist Giovanni Varlese (1888–1922).

This atmospheric and lively statue depicts a young Neapolitan fisherman with a characteristic broad-brimmed hat and a loincloth, pressing his freshly caught fish to his chest with a proud smile.

Varlese was known, in the tradition of his master Vincenzo Gemito, for masterfully capturing the raw and pure street- and fisher life of Naples.

Signature: The statue is deeply and clearly signed with "VARLESE" on the bronze cliff base.

Casting quality: This is an early, high-quality casting from the early 20th century (circa 1910). The figure of the fisherman is fully solid cast, ensuring an exceptionally high quality and durability.
Bottom: The interior of the hollow rocky pedestal shows the original, cast-in artisan mounting strip and the classic traces of the traditional sand-casting or lost-wax process from that period see photos.

Patina: Equipped with a beautiful, original dark patina with occasional light, natural aging wear on the raised edges (as at the toes), where the pale golden bronze color shimmers eloquently.

Pedestal: Mounted on the original, solid and perfectly finished marble base.
