Description from the seller
Antique Hand-Hammered Copper Cauldron with Lid & Handle – Large Rustic Vessel
Description
Impressive antique hand-crafted copper cauldron / vessel, complete with its original-style fitted lid and substantial carrying handle.
The vessel has a beautiful bulbous form and was made using traditional metalworking techniques. Particularly attractive are the visible hand-hammered surfaces, joined construction, decorative worked band around the shoulder and large forged handle attachments.
The copper has developed a deep, naturally aged patina, ranging from warm reddish-brown copper tones to darker areas and traces of green oxidation. These surfaces have intentionally been left unpolished, preserving the authentic character acquired through many years of use.
The lid is fitted with a distinctive folded-metal grip, while the large movable handle is attached through substantial side loops. The irregularities, tool marks and wear give the object a wonderful primitive / folk-art character.
