A coherent set of four Renault historical advertising posters, official reissues, each about 40 × 60 cm, in Very Good condition, with an accompanying provenance attestation.
Description from the seller
Coherent set of four official reissues of historic Renault advertising posters, from my personal collection.
These posters were presented by the Renault Museum of Boulogne-Billancourt within the Rétromobile event. Their nature as official Renault reissues was confirmed to me orally by the Renault Museum; however, the museum was not able to provide me with a written certificate within the preparation deadline for this sale.
The four posters, of a uniform format about 40 × 60 cm, reproduce emblematic campaigns from different periods of Renault's history:
1 — “France must be developed with a French tractor”
Original creation by Éric de Coulon, 1927. Mention “Draeger Imp.” The Musée des Années 30 of Boulogne-Billancourt preserves an original copy and documents the creation in 1927, printed by Draeger.
2 — “Only one car for city and road – The Celtaquatre”
Renault campaign of the 1930s. Mention “Imprimeries spéciales des Usines Renault”. Visible reference: VT 249.3412. The Celtaquatre appears in this campaign from the mid-1930s. An original large-format copy (80 × 120 cm) of this composition was notably offered at public sale as a Renault poster from the 1930s.
3 — “Dauphine Renault – National Administration”
Illustration signed Diaz / L. Morin. Mention Photolith Paris – Printed in France. Reference VT 646 5602.
4 — “Vines and Orchards – Renault Motoculture”
Advertisement dedicated to Renault tractors 50, 60, 70 and 80. Mentions Publicis Paris Edition and Imp. Bedos et Cie Paris.
Provenance:
This set has been kept in the context of my professional activity in publishing.
I worked with Éditions JCM, which became in 1998 Espace Media International. Éditions JCM notably published in 1991 L’Île Seguin by Gilbert Hatry and Pierre Mercier, ISBN 2-902667-14-0, a work devoted to the history of the Renault site in Billancourt. This bibliographic reference is documented in public collections.
The work benefited for its documentation from the Archives of the Renault Group History Society and Renault as well as from the Renault photo library, as indicated on its “Sources” page.
A signed provenance certificate accompanies the four posters and individually identifies each piece.
Important:
The book L’Île Seguin is cited for documentary purposes, to establish the publishing context and provenance of the set.
The book is not part of the lot and will not be supplied to the purchaser.
The sale concerns exclusively the four Renault posters and their provenance certificate.
