Our Lady of Lourdes – polychrome biscuit porcelain – Germany – late 19th century
Professionally shipped – over 950 five-star reviews worldwide.
This sculpture depicts Our Lady of Lourdes, as Mary would have appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Mary wears a white gown with a light blue sash and her hands are folded in prayer. The roses at her feet and the long rosary refer to the apparitions in the Massabielle cave and the devotion to Mary.
The sculpture is simply polychromed with fine gilded accents. On the front of the plinth reads “N.D. de Lourdes”.
Height approximately 39 cm; in good overall condition with normal signs of age and a defect to Mary’s right hand. Stamped with the embossed factory mark of Gräfenthal, used between 1879 and 1886.
