Mother with child – glazed ceramic – Germany – mid 20th century
Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star-reviews worldwide.
This sculpture depicts a seated mother who protective-raises her child close to her. Their heads touch each other, emphasising the tender bond between mother and child. The subject aligns with the traditional Madonna with Child, but here it is elaborated in a simplified, modern form.
The deep wine-red glaze is combined with softly marbled gray-pink tones for the faces, hands and the child's garment. The wide folds of the dress form the base of the sculpture at the same time.
Height approx. 21 cm; in very good overall condition with only minor signs of age and use; underside marked “Figural” and “Made in Germany”.
