The eight trigrams of the I Ching are based on the five Chinese elements. These trigrams are described in the Book of Changes. According to legend, the trigrams were long ago transcribed by Fu Xi (2952–2836 BC), the legendary founder of Chinese culture, onto the markings on a turtle's shell.

The object is in good used condition with signs of aging. (See photos)

De acht trigrammen van de I Tjing zijn gebaseerd op de vijf Chinese elementen. Deze trigrammen staan in het Boek van Veranderingen. Volgens de overlevering zijn de trigrammen lang geleden door Fu Xi (2952 - 2836 v.Chr.), de legendarische grondlegger van de Chinese cultuur, overgetekend naar de tekening op het schild van een schildpad.
