Plaster and papier-mâché sphere covered with strips of lithographed paper. Very beautiful original tripod base in cast iron, ornate (Napoleon III style), ending with remarkable lion-claw feet. A decorative metal finial atop it.
Good overall condition and entirely original. The paper shows a very beautiful, uniform patina built up with time. Note a few cracks and very light local losses/scratches (notably small white chips above Australia), quite normal and sound for a plaster object of nearly 140 years.
No amateur restoration has been attempted to preserve the globe's integrity.

Sphère en plâtre et papier mâché recouverte de fuseaux de papier lithographié. Très beau piètement tripode d'origine en fonte de fer ornée (style Napoléon III), se terminant par de remarquables pieds en griffes de lion. Flèche métallique décorative à son sommet
 Bon état général et entièrement d'origine . Le papier présente une très belle patine homogène liée au temps. À noter quelques craquelures et de très légers manques/griffures locaux (notamment de petits éclats blancs au-dessus de l'Australie), tout à fait normaux et sains pour un objet en plâtre de près de 140 ans. 
Aucune restauration amateur n'a été tentée afin de préserver l'intégrité du globe .
