Two hand-turned stoneware vases by Pottenbakkerij De Blauwe Dolfijn, each with emerald green glaze and crater glaze and a blue dolphin mark, dating circa 1955–1975, dimensions about 15.5 cm high with 13 cm depth for the conical vase and 15 x 10.5 cm for the bulbous vase, total weight 1350 g, in good vintage condition with minor signs of aging and glaze specks; decorative objects only, not for food use.
Description from the seller
Two hand-thrown vases from Pottery De Blauwe Dolfijn, each marked with the cobalt-blue dolphin, in emerald green glaze and crater glaze. The glaze flows in clouds of emerald to bottle green over the conical shape. The bulbous vase carries a thick white crater glaze, through which the aubergine underlayer peeks through every crack. Together they form a calm, artisanal duo on a windowsill.
For this object there is also a Buy Now price set, for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting.
Description:
The cone vase narrows toward the top and ends in a short, flaring neck. Lighter emerald green patches lie over a dark ground; the interior is dark glazed. The second vase is round and tapers toward the opening. The white crater glaze lies thickly over aubergine and chocolate brown. On both white-glazed bases you can see the driness of the disk and the painted mark.
About the maker:
Pottery De Blauwe Dolfijn (Alitine Blumenthal-Bouten, Aalst-Waalre) opened in 1955 in the Treeswijkhoeve farm near Eindhoven. Alitine Bouten (The Hague 1923 – Aalst-Waalre 1975) learned the craft at the IvKNO in Amsterdam. From 1946 she worked in a pottery in St. Gallen, which she later led herself. In Waalre she produced unique pieces, decorative ware and place settings. These two vases come from that workshop.
In the interior:
They fit in a mid-century or country-style interior, on a windowsill, sideboard or bookcase. In side light the little cracks and the deep emerald come out best.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. No flakes, hairlines or restorations observed. The little cracks and tiny blisters in the crater glaze are part of this glaze and are not damage. On the bottom of the cone vase there are two remnants of an old paper label. See the photos. Intended as a decorative object, not for use with food.
