Description from the seller
Two Waldglas vases with a sky-blue cornflower in relief enamel • Germany (attrib.) • ca. 1880–1920 - Glass
Two hand-blown vases in sea-green Waldglas, each with a sky-blue flower in baked relief enamel. The flower sits as a tangible relief on the glass, with a bud and slender leaves around it. Bubbles in the wall reveal the craftsmanship; the small difference in size gives the two its character. On a windowsill they catch the daylight.
For this object a Buy Now price has also been set, for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting.
Description:
An outward-flaring bowl on a bulging, tapered foot; the wall widens from the foot to the rim. The glass is sea-green with fine air bubbles in the wall. The decoration is brush-painted. A sky-blue flower bears mandarin-orange stamens and pale yellow and white anthers; in addition there is a bud on a straight stem and slender leaves. The enamel is fired and lies tactile on the glass. The base shows a rough pontil scar, not ground away.
About the maker:
Green glass with painted enamel is an old European genre, in Germany known as email bemalt Waldglas. Such cups and vases were made in the 19th century and around 1900 in several centers, often for export. Much of it remained unnoted: glass was blown at one hut, painted elsewhere, and sold by trading houses without a mark. These two likewise bear no signature or mark.
In the interior:
Fits in a country, retro or eclectic interior, on a windowsill or sideboard. The sea-green wall lets the blue of the flower come out.
Condition:
Good. Rim, wall and foot: no chips, cracks, or restorations observed. The enamel is complete. On the base there are small dark specks in and on the glass. The air bubbles, the pontil scar and the size difference are production-related. See the photographs. Offered as a decorative object, not intended for use with food.
