Large fireplace screen in golden bronze – Louis XVI style – France, circa 1880–1910

Impressive fireplace guard or spark screen of French origin, executed in gilded bronze and metal mesh. It features an architectural composition of rich decorative detail, divided into five vertical panels and topped by five circular pierced medallions with vases of flowers.

The decoration incorporates garlands of flowers and fruits, drapery, acanthus scrolls, pearl friezes and classical-inspired geometric elements. In the center, there is an elegant arched handle ornament. It rests on four curved feet ending in turned elements.

This is a characteristic example of Louis XVI Revival produced in France during the late Napoleonic III period and the Belle Époque.
