Catalogue number: 39436

Märklin 39436 in H0 scale: the express steam locomotive of the Bavarian class S 3/6, sub-series d — nicknamed "die Hochhaxige" due to the particularly large driving wheels with a diameter of 2,000 mm. The model carries works number 3624 and depicts the operating condition around 1912; this locomotive was later renumbered by the Reichsbahn to 18 441. The factory plate from J.A. Maffei München is mounted on the cylinder block.

The S 3/6 is regarded as the masterpiece of Bavarian express locomotive designs. Maffei developed the machine from 1907 with a four-cylinder compound system; the units with the large driving wheels from 1912/1913 proved to be excellent long-distance performers and, among other routes, hauled the D 57/58 between Munich and Würzburg non-stop.

The model is a completely new construction and is predominantly metal. Characteristic is the fine metal die-cast running gear with a broken frame and very open underframe visibility through the wheelset. Further features:

– mfx+ and DCC decoder with extensive sound functions
– Five-pole high-power drive with flywheel
– Standard built-in smoke generator
– Illuminated and intricately detailed cab
– White headlight, train meeting light digitally switchable
– Short-coupling mechanism between locomotive and tender, with "showcase position"
– Included: fine smoke chamber door steps, hook-and-chain coupling and air hose for the tender rear, and piston rod protection tubes

Length over the buffers: 26.7 cm.

As a supplement to this model, Märklin released the K.Bay.Sts.B. express passenger cars 41358, 41359, 41369 and 41379, enabling a historically authentic Bavarian express train composition. See my other listing for details.

Delivered in the original Märklin packaging. Condition: the locomotive is in excellent, barely used condition. Paint and lettering are intact, the brass and photo-etched details are undamaged, and the fine linkage work is undamaged. The three bags with additional parts are still unopened.

Model has been tested and is operational. If there are any problems, please report them immediately after receipt.
