Original and official CM or GM atelier pieces of three Volvic lava enamel panels, mid‑century brutalist geometry, French origin from Auvergne, central 20×20 cm piece with two 10×10 cm tiles, total weight 1.91 kg, in excellent condition with minimal wear.
Description from the seller
Trio of enamels on Volvic lava, brutalist, geometric motifs and rosettes, 1960s-70s
Description:
Rare modernist ensemble from the second half of the 20th century, crafted in the pure tradition of the fire arts in Auvergne. This harmonious lot comprises three pieces in Volvic lava stone, enameled, combining a large central plaque and two matching smaller tiles.
Composition and dimensions of the lot:
The large central tile:
Dimensions: 20×20 cm — Thickness: 1.85 cm
The two matching tiles:
Dimensions: 10×10 cm each — Thickness: 1.60 cm
Weight of the lot (all 3 pieces): 1.91 kg (testifying to the density, thickness and robustness of the true volcanic rock).
Aesthetic and technical analysis:
The decor and style: The ensemble displays a rich geometric and geocentric design inspired by ethnic-modernist and brutalist (Mid-Century) aesthetics, featuring circular medallions and stylized rosettes in sunny and contrasting tones (terracotta, brown ochre, turquoise blue and pale green) on a deep black textured background, edged with toothed friezes.
The material: Made on genuine Volvic lava stone, this support stands out for its high thermal resistance and its raw volcanic structure visible on the back. The backs bear workshop markings in blue felt-tip pen, typical of manufacturing or stock management indicators of the era.
Workshop signature: CM or GM
Condition:
Excellent overall. The enamels are bright, deeply luminous and firmly fixed. The edges and corners of the stone are sound.
