AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to present to you an exceptionally finely crafted Chinese table screen from old family ownership. CHINESE table screen from the late Ming to early Qing period,

The table screen is made of darkly lacquered wood and is fully inlaid on both front and back with colorful iridescent mother-of-pearl inlays. Both sides depict different garden and pavilion scenes with numerous figures. The pierced frame and the curved base are also richly adorned with very intricate mother-of-pearl work.

Dimensions: approximately 48 cm high × 42 cm wide × 14 cm deep.

Provenance: Old family possession of the Gottschalk family, on the maternal side. The piece comes from the possession of my great-grandparents and has been passed down within the family over several generations.

The mother-of-pearl inlays are entirely intact; I am not aware of any missing or damaged inlays. On one side, the lacquer ground shows age- and light-related cracks, with small deviations in the mother-of-pearl, i.e., craquelure. The table screen is in its unrestored original condition.
