Saint Christopher with the Child Jesus – polychromed and gilded wood – 19th Century

Devotional sculpture representing Saint Christopher crossing the river, leaning on his staff and carrying the Child Jesus on his shoulders. The Child holds the blue globe and raises the right hand in a gesture of blessing.

Piece entirely carved in wood, with gypsum preparation, polychromy and gilded accents. The movement of the cloak, the dynamic composition and the expressive treatment of the figures follow the Baroque tradition of popular religious sculpture from southern Germany and the Alpine region.
