Portuguese colonial coin minted for the territory of Macao, one of the last European possessions in Asia. On the obverse stands the coat of arms of Portugal on a field of the armillary sphere, symbol of the Portuguese discoveries, accompanied by the value and the territorial designation. The reverse bears the official legend of the issuing country and the year of minting, together with the same heraldic shield. This 1 Pataca piece blends European influence with Chinese characters, reflecting the multicultural context of the region at that time. Its high grade MS66 denotes an exceptional state of preservation, with original luster and sharp details.
