These nuggets come from the desert region of Tiris Zemmour in northern Mauritania, more than a hundred kilometers from an area named Guelb Ndour.
Gold mining in this country was reserved only for a large industrial company.
But since 2016 individual mining has been allowed using metal detectors.
With a team of Mauritanians we conduct prospecting with this type of equipment (mainly Minelab GPZ7000 and GPX4500) in the Mauritanian desert.
I offer them as I discovered them; I have only cleaned them with soapy water.
The gold from this region is quite pure; in general its purity is around 950 to 980 fineness, which corresponds to 22.80 to 23.50 carats.
Although gold extraction has become one of Mauritania's primary resources, nuggets are fairly rare because almost all the gold is melted into ingots which are then sent to Dubai.
