This cosmetic restoration was carried out by a professional lacquer specialist. The process involved carefully stripping the original chrome from each component, followed by applying several coats of paint (paying tribute to the limited edition “Safari”). The finish consists of a high-end baked enamel coating, applied in four thin coats to ensure exceptional durability as well as increased resistance to chipping and flaking.
This meticulous artisanal process ensures great longevity while preventing oxidation and deterioration of the paint. The glossy lacquer finish, emblematic of Leica, is renowned for its complexity and the standards it demands; it gives the camera a unique and striking aesthetic. With prolonged use, the body will gradually develop a “brassing” effect (exposure of the underlying metal), creating a rich and magnificent patina that embodies the classic charm of a Leica that has lived.
The camera is in excellent condition and fully functional, with an impeccable finish. All components have been tested; the body is in very good condition and the shutter speeds are accurate. The rangefinder works correctly and the shutter curtains are perfectly flat and in excellent condition. The viewfinder has benefited from professional servicing: it is bright and sharp, allowing quick and precise focusing thanks to the yellow rangefinder patch.
