Large vintage teak serving tray by Silva, Made in Denmark, 1960s
The tray has an elegant elongated oval form with integrated handles, a raised edge and beautiful warm teak grain.
Its clean, functional design is typical of Danish mid-century modern design.
The underside is stamped “Silva – Made in Denmark – Patented 73152”.
About Silva:
Silva was originally a Swedish brand associated with Aktiebolaget Bröderna Kjellström, internationally known for its compasses and outdoor equipment. The name Silva – Latin for “forest” – and its characteristic fir-tree trademark date from the late 1940s. The company also developed a range of moulded wooden serving trays and teak products.
In Denmark, Silva serving trays were manufactured under licence by Langaa Træindustri, a Danish company specialising in moulded wood products. Langaa produced Silva trays until the licence expired in 1967, after which the company continued its tray production under the name Langva.
This particular large teak tray, measuring 60 × 28 cm and stamped “Silva – Made in Denmark – Patented 73152”, can be dated to around 1964.
