On the base are the inscriptions Mater Ecclesiae, Maria Rosa Mystica and Ora Pro Nobis. The devotion to Maria Rosa Mystica arose following alleged apparitions to Pierina Gilli in Montichiari, Italy, in 1947 and subsequently spread within Catholic devotional circles.
