Religious figure – wood – Germany – 16th century
Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star reviews worldwide.
Carved wooden religious figure from the 16th century, probably originating from a German retable or altar ensemble. The figure wears a long gown with a broad mantle, fastened with a round fibula at the chest. Both hands are raised.
On the back there are two symmetrical, flattened zones with central mounting holes, indicating former wing attachments. It may be a cherub/angel figure, though it cannot be determined whether these wings originally belonged to the figure or were added later.
Height 42 cm. Weight 1.2 kg.
Old wood with pronounced signs of age and use, including old woodworm holes, erosion and material loss on both arms and hands, and old fillings at the base. The wings are missing.
