Description from the seller

Roman Terra Sigillata Oil Lamp with Satyr – 1st to 3rd Century AD

A Roman terra sigillata oil lamp mould-made in reddish-orange clay, featuring on the discus a relief representation of a satyr, one of the mythological companions of Dionysus (Bacchus). The satyr’s pointed ears, bearded face and expressive features remain visible within the recessed central panel, surrounded by concentric moulded rings. The rounded body terminates in a short nozzle with a burned wick aperture, characteristic of Roman Imperial oil lamps. The piece shows an archaeological surface with stable deposits and light mineral encrustation consistent with long-term burial.

Material: Terra Sigillata (fine Roman red ware)
Dimensions: 10.4 cm length
Provenance: Acquired in Switzerland at an Auction house.

We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years. A Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) will be sent digitally by email..
