Ancient Egyptian Alabaster Vessel – Old Kingdom to First Intermediate Period – 2600 to 2000 BC
A substantial Ancient Egyptian alabaster vessel dating to the Old Kingdom to First Intermediate Period, circa 2600 to 2000 BC. Carved from pale Egyptian alabaster, the vessel has a rounded body, short cylindrical neck and broad everted rim, with the natural translucent cream and honey-toned veining of the stone clearly visible throughout. At approximately 16 cm high, it is an unusually large and imposing example, preserved in remarkably good overall condition. A small hole is present in the base; otherwise, the vessel retains an exceptional shape and highly attractive surface.
