Description from the seller
Rare fish plate / enameled cast iron cooking dish, attributed to Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset, circa 1958.
Unsigned.
A superb piece of French design from the 1950s, recognizable by its extremely elongated oval shape, its two integrated handles, and its elegant vintage yellow finish, characteristic of the early productions of the range designed by Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset.
Mainly intended for cooking whole fish, this dish can also be used for gratins, vegetables, oven preparations, or displayed at table.
Specifications:
Manufacturer: probably Le Creuset
Designer: Raymond Loewy, attribution
Era: circa 1958
Material: enameled cast iron
Exterior: yellow
Interior: white enamel
Shape: elongated oval
Dimensions: 40.5 × 14 × 5 cm
Two integrated handles
Manufacture: France, probable attribution
Condition: exceptional
The piece is presented in a remarkable state of preservation for its age.
The white interior enamel is particularly well preserved and shows no notable chipping. The yellow exterior surface is also very beautiful.
Only a few infinitesimal marks of use are visible on the ends of the handles, very discreet and perfectly consistent with the piece’s age.
No cracks, no significant chipping, and no restorations observed.
A rare design piece
In 1958, Raymond Loewy designed for Le Creuset a new generation of cooking shapes with modern, aerodynamic lines. The famous Coquelle is the best-known example of this collaboration. Le Creuset is also documented as having worked with Loewy on enameled cast iron pieces.
The shape of this dish is today particularly sought after by Le Creuset vintage, Mid-Century design, and Raymond Loewy enthusiasts.
Comparable pieces are currently offered as “Raymond Loewy Le Creuset Fish Pan,” notably in yellow, with dimensions very close to 40 × 14.5 × 6 cm.
A rare and particularly decorative piece, here offered in exceptional condition.
Very careful and protective shipping
