Description from the seller
Rare fish plate / enameled cast iron cooking dish, attributed to Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset, circa 1958.
A superb piece of 1950s French design, recognizable by its extremely elongated oval shape, its two integrated handles and its elegant vintage yellow finish, characteristic of the early productions of the range designed by Raymond Loewy for Le Creuset.
Intended especially for cooking whole fish, this dish can also be used for gratins, vegetables, bakeware, or presented at table.
Characteristics:
Manufacturer: probably Le Creuset
Designer: Raymond Loewy, attribution
Era: circa 1958
Material: enameled cast iron
Exterior: yellow
Interior: white enamel
Shape: elongated oval
Dimensions: 40.5 × 14 × 5 cm
Weight: 3.5 kg
Two integrated handles
Manufacturing: France, probable attribution
Excellent condition
The piece is presented in remarkable condition for its age.
The white interior enamel is particularly well preserved and shows no notable chips. The yellow exterior surface is also very beautiful.
Only a few minuscule signs of use are visible on the ends of the handles, very discreet and perfectly consistent with the piece’s age.
No cracks, no significant chips, and no restorations observed.
A rare design piece
In 1958, Raymond Loewy designed for Le Creuset a new generation of cooking shapes with clean, modern, aerodynamic lines. The famous Coquelle is the best-known example of this collaboration. Le Creuset is also documented as having worked with Loewy on pieces in enameled cast iron.
The shape of this dish is today particularly sought after by Le Creuset vintage, Mid-Century design, and Raymond Loewy enthusiasts.
Comparable examples are currently offered as “Raymond Loewy Le Creuset Fish Pan,” notably in yellow, with dimensions very close to 40 × 14.5 × 6 cm.
A rare and especially decorative piece, here offered in exceptional condition.
Very careful and protective shipping,
Best regards,
