‘Timeless Beauty’ is different from what we usually expect from the Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren. The exhibition shows how provocative nude photographs by cult photographer Marc Lagrange engage in dialogue with intriguing texts by Roman authors and beautiful ancient artifacts from the museum’s collection.

The Timeless Beauty exhibition highlights female beauty. Beauty of today, represented by more than 50 works by the Belgian photographer Marc Lagrange, but also beauty of yesterday. Thus you will learn, among other things, how women dressed 2000 years ago, which jewelry they wore, and what was in a Roman beauty case.

The exhibition is arranged so that a dialogue emerges between the beauty of today and the beauty of then. Lagrange’s photographs mingle with the Roman artifacts of the museum and poetic texts from classical authors such as Ovid and Sextus Propertius. The result is a dynamic interplay that seems to give both the old and the new an extra dimension.
