C.S.T.S. Czechoslovakia - Siphon Art Deco - BLUE URANIUM GLASS

Elegant Art Deco siphon in molded glass with internal twisted decoration, made in blue ouraline glass and intended for P. Harribey, in Saugnac-et-Muret (Landes). Its cylindrical silhouette with rounded shoulders and its twisted decor give it a characteristic aesthetic of Art Deco period productions.

The bottle, manufactured in Czechoslovakia, presents a remarkable turquoise blue tint and a strong bright green fluorescence under ultraviolet light at 395 nm, characteristic of the presence of uranium in the glass. It bears an acid-etched engraving reading “P. HARRIBEY SAUGNAC ET MURET (LANDES)”. Under the base also appears the inscription “CARAFE FABRIQUÉE EN TCHÉCOSLOVAQUIE”, accompanied by a logo representing a hot air balloon containing the letters “CSTS”, a trademark found on other Czechoslovak productions intended for the French market.

The tin mechanism is particularly interesting: it bears the inscriptions “P. HARRIBEY – SAUGNAC & MURET” as well as “G. GONZALES & Cie – COGNAC”, attesting to its attribution to this Cognac establishment. The whole piece is also marked “1934” and “ÉTAIN SANS PLOMB”, allowing a precise dating of this item in the interwar period.

The piece is in very good overall condition. The glass retains excellent transparency and remarkable fluorescence. Signs of use are visible inside the bottle, mainly at the base. A small chip is also noted on the lower part of the belly forming the foot, as well as a small area showing a few nicks just next to it, on the same face. These defects are clearly visible in the photographs and do not alter the overall presentation of the piece.

An original piece uniting Czech Czechoslovakian ouraline glass, French commercial destination, and a tin mount dated 1934, particularly interesting for collectors of old siphons, Art Deco glassware, and uranium glass.
