Large Chinese sancai-glazed terracotta horse in Tang style.

Beautifully modeled horse with an expressive head, richly detailed saddle and harness, and decorative relief motifs on the hindquarters. Executed in characteristic amber, green, and cream glazes and mounted on an integrated rectangular base.

The object is unmarked. The underside is largely unglazed. The glaze shows craquelure and the piece has signs of use and age and minor irregularities, particularly on the base. See the photos, which are an integral part of the description. No major damage or restorations identified.

Provenance: purchased on the Belgian antique market. Further provenance, exact dating, and workshop are unknown. The object is therefore offered as a later version/reproduction in the style of the well-known sancai horses from the Tang period.
