Sansui - AU-α607XR Solid state integrated amplifier

The deep black face, three substantial main knobs and gold Sansui lettering give this AU-α607XR a wonderfully purposeful presence. At 18 kg, it has the reassuring substance of serious 1990s Japanese Hi-Fi—the sort of amplifier one can easily imagine at the heart of a well-loved listening room, and a model collectors naturally notice at auction.

[Appearance]

The black front panel presents beautifully, with the large volume control, Power Amp Direct selector and Input Selector giving the amplifier its unmistakably substantial Sansui character.

There are light scratches, small marks and signs of normal age-related use, particularly on the top cover and around some cabinet edges. However, the overall presentation remains attractive, and the gold lettering and control markings are still clear and elegant.

The knobs and switches appear well preserved, while the large ventilation openings and heavy chassis give the unit that wonderfully serious, engineered appearance associated with Sansui amplifiers of this period.

[Functionality]

I set “INPUT” to “LINE” and “OUTPUT” to “A” to check the audio output. The balance and other knobs also function properly.
The various indicator lights come on.
The REC function has not been tested.

Toggling the “SOURCE POWER DIRECT” switch may cause the connection to become loose.

It seems the volume is louder on the R channel than on the L channel.

I have only verified the specific functions described above. Other functions, input and output terminals, switches, and detailed performance characteristics have not been verified, and I cannot guarantee their operation.
