The Canon AE-1 (1976) is one of the most important cameras ever made — the first SLR built around a microprocessor, produced in millions and responsible for bringing automatic exposure to a mass audience. Its shutter-priority automation and light, well-balanced body still make it an excellent camera to learn on. Offered here with the Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C., the fast standard lens carrying Canon's Super Spectra Coating — the higher-grade multicoating of the FD line, and noticeably better than the plain S.C. version at controlling flare.

Appearance

Optical Condition
Finder: Cleaned internally.
Lens: FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C.: a scratch-like patch of haze at the edge of the front element; otherwise largely clear. See photos.

Functional
Power, light meter and shutter work. Measured: 1 s = 1 s, 1/60 = 1/60, 1/1000 = 1/744.
The light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder and lens cleaned internally.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1 s (on the mark)
- 1/60 — measured 1/60 s (on the mark)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/744 s (approx. 0.4 stop slow)
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally

Known Issues
1. A scratch-like patch of haze at the edge of the front element. The rest of the lens is largely clear and it should have little effect on images.

Shipping
We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
