The Canon P (Populaire), introduced in 1959, is one of the best-loved Japanese rangefinder cameras: a clean, fully mechanical body with a life-size viewfinder showing 35, 50 and 100mm frame lines, a metal focal-plane shutter to 1/1000 s and the Leica screw mount. It is offered here with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 standard lens and lens hood.

Important — please read carefully:
The camera body is in good working order, but the lens has heavy internal haze and scratches, and the viewfinder has some fungus. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding.

Optical Condition
Finder: Some fungus remains in the viewfinder after internal cleaning; the rangefinder patch is usable.
Lens: Canon 50mm f/1.8: heavy haze and scratches remain inside after internal cleaning. See photos.

Functional
The body is in good working order: shutter, film transport and rangefinder work. Measured: 1 s = 0.8 s, 1/60 = 1/54, 1/1000 = 1/2310 (about one stop fast).
The viewfinder and lens have been cleaned internally.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/0.8 s (approx. 0.3 stop slow)
- 1/60 — measured 1/54 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/2310 s (approx. 1.2 stop fast)
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally

Known Issues
1. The lens has heavy internal haze and scratches that cleaning did not remove; expect low contrast and a soft, glowing image. The lens would need professional service for critical use.
2. Some fungus remains in the viewfinder.
3. The 1/1000 speed runs about one stop fast (measured about 1/2310).

We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
