The Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D, introduced in 1993, is a true macro lens that focuses down to life size (1:1) without accessories. Its working distance makes it a favourite for insects, flowers and product work, and it doubles as a sharp short telephoto for portraits. The D-type design passes distance information to the camera for flash metering. It has an aperture ring, so it works on manual-focus Nikon F bodies as well as autofocus film and digital bodies with a built-in focus motor.
