Domus / Finn Chair designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara, Belgian licensed production for Knoll International in the 1950s; solid birch frame with a bent plywood seat and back, brown finish, model Standard Chair, ten chairs in total, dimensions 78×57×52 cm with a seating height of 44 cm, condition good with signs of aging and minor blemishes, includes a tenth chair with a detached backrest.
Description from the seller
et of nine original Domus chairs, designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1946 for the Domus Academica student housing in Helsinki and internationally known as the Finn Chair. Belgian licensed production for Knoll International, 1950s. Four chairs still carry the original label under the seat: "Fabriqué en Belgique sous licence de Knoll International Ltd New York". The remaining chairs are structurally identical and come from the same lot.
Solid birch frame, bent plywood seat and backrest, backrest fixed with three screws. Warm honey colour with flame figuring in the veneer.
Condition: used vintage condition, not restored, original finish with patina. Frames are solid and all chairs are fully usable. Defects: one chair has a chip missing from the front edge of the seat, one chair has a small crack and damaged edge at the front right of the seat, and a few seats show light scratches or minor surface delamination at the edges. One chair has a loose backrest; all parts are present. All defects are photographed.
A tenth chair with a detached backrest (all parts complete) is included in this lot at no extra cost.
The current Artek edition retails at approximately 900 euros per chair.
