Artemide Eclisse PVD Black, the iconic table lamp designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965.

Eclisse is one of the most celebrated projects in Italian design of the 20th century. Designed for Artemide in 1965, it won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1967 and became one of the symbols of Italian design worldwide. Today it is part of the permanent collections of major design museums, including MoMA in New York and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.

The project is based on a system both simple and brilliant: a fixed outer shell encloses a rotating inner shade that allows manual adjustment of the lamp’s opening and thus its light output. By rotating the inner diffuser it is possible to obtain a more direct light or to progressively shield the source until creating the effect of a true eclipse.

This version is the Eclisse PVD Black, identified by the original Artemide code 0028130A.

Unlike traditional painted versions, the PVD Black finish is produced through an innovative vacuum metal deposition process (“sputtering”), developed by Artemide to achieve a particularly distinctive metallic surface. The finish is subsequently protected with a clear coat to preserve its aesthetic quality over time.

The deep black of the PVD finish gives the iconic form of Eclisse a more sophisticated and contemporary look, while keeping the original mechanism designed by Magistretti fully intact.

The lamp can be used as a table lamp or wall-mounted.
