Runner - 1.1 cm - 40 cm - Handmade needle lace

Nowadays it is hard to understand that this piece is entirely handmade. The technique used to make it is called needle lace. Another technique, the one with wooden bobbins, is called bobbin lace. But needle lace consists of many buttonhole stitches stacked on top of each other. The connecting bars are made in the same way, and the closed sections as well. I think it was made around the early 1800s, but it could be older. It comes from Belgium, where lacemaking is held in high esteem.
