AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Massive Bronze Sculpture – Seated Tuareg Musician – Mali (West Africa) – 2nd Half of the 20th Century

Large, expressive bronze figure of a seated musician from Mali (West Africa), made in the traditional lost-wax casting method (Cire Perdue).

This detailed sculpture shows a traditional Tuareg musician seated, holding a drum on his lap and playing a wind instrument. The figure stands out for its dynamic posture and the characteristic form of Malian folk art.

The underside of the sculpture (see photos) is hollow as typical for the material and shows the characteristic rough traces of the traditional casting process. Residues of the clay wax mold were deliberately left in the recesses to give the surface deeper texture and an authentic archaeological patina. With a weight of 2.5 kg, this is a massive, heavy, and valuable collectible.
