Two bronze and marble candelabra (Cinco Brazos) in an antique Louis XV-inspired style from 1910–1920, with pink marble bases and gilded bronze bodies, five arms, about 54 cm high and 24 cm wide/deep, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
They are two candelabras from the early 20th century that faithfully reinterpret the Louis XVI style, combining the solidity of bronze with the nobility of marble to create pieces with majestic presence and classical balance. The structure rises from pink marble bases, polished and luminous, which provide visual weight and a warm chromatic contrast to the gold of the metal. Above them stand the central bodies, where the amphorae decoration stands out, a motif characteristic of the Neoclassical vocabulary: stylized, symmetrical, with that archaeological elegance that evokes Greco-Roman antiquity reinterpreted by the French taste of the eighteenth century.
The bronze, worked with precision, displays a rich yet restrained ornamentation: acanthus leaves, soft scrolls, small pearls, and vertical lines that organize the composition. From the upper section emerge the five arms in harmonious curves, each crowned with well-proportioned cups that maintain the serenity and formal clarity typical of Louis XVI. There is no Rococo excess; here geometry, proportion, and refinement prevail.
The ensemble conveys that blend of domestic luxury and classical rigor that defined French decoration in its historicist version of the early twentieth century. They are pieces designed to dress a console, a fireplace, or a drawing-room table with light and presence, capable of imparting character both in classical settings and in contemporary interiors that seek a touch of historical distinction.
