Description from the seller
This trophy was made for the Grand Prize Mario Declercq and only 3 copies were made, each in a different color.
Jan Leenknegt (born 1950 in Oudenaarde) already attended evening classes as a child at the Academy of Fine Arts in Oudenaarde, where his father, Michiel Leenknegt, is director. He studies drawing and painting, later ceramics. In his father's workshop he learns the stained-glass technique.
Jan takes lessons at various art academies. After Antwerp, Deinze and Oudenaarde, the Mechelen academy was the most formative for him.
From 1974 he has worked as an independent artist in a part-time capacity and combines this with teaching at the Art Academies of Oudenaarde and Ronse.
Jan designs and realizes stained-glass windows on commission for private individuals and public buildings.
Later he mainly designs glass sculptures to exhibit in museums, galleries, sculpture gardens and cultural centers at home and abroad.
His free work is not only intended to be exhibited in galleries and sculpture gardens; he also works a lot on commission. In this way he realized numerous glass sculptures for domestic and international clients on request. Each glass sculpture is unique.
Jan Leenknegt specializes in designing and executing large-format works. Church windows quickly reach an area of 20 m². Glass sculptures that hang as mobiles in large halls can reach a height of 7 m, and bas-reliefs can be up to 11 m high.
