Large hammered-brass jug with hinged lid – Early 20th century (first half)

Description
A significant large hand-worked copper jug, notable for its slender, monumental form and an attractive patina developed over time.
The vessel features a broad, flared body made of hammered copper, narrowing progressively toward the neck. The upper part ends with a shaped mouth forming the pouring spout.
Particularly interesting is the construction of the large side metal handle, which runs almost the full height of the jug and is fixed to the body with rivets. The handle also features decorative work achieved through impressions and punch marks.
Completing the piece is the hinged lid, operable by means of the handle and topped with a small knob.
The surface clearly preserves traces of hand-working in the irregular hammering of the body and base, in the joints and fastening systems. These details give the jug a strong artisanal character.
By type and construction, the object can be traced to the European tradition of large copper vessels intended for transporting and serving water. In the absence of identifying marks or stamps, no specific geographic attribution is proposed.

Conditions
Good overall condition considering age and nature of the object.
The jug retains a pronounced antique patina, with oxidation, copper carbonate patina, color alterations, abrasions, small knocks, and irregularities resulting from use and artisanal working.
There are evident traces of oxidation also on the interior and around the lid and joints. The areas with yellow-gold tones along some welds and at the bottom are preserved in the state they appear in and are not attributed to a specific decorative finish.
The object has not been restored or subjected to invasive polishing, preserving its historical appearance.
