Walt Disney Productions - Marc Davis Hand-Signed Limited-Edition Sericel - Bambi & Thumper

Official Walt Disney Company limited-edition serigraph cel featuring Bambi, Thumper and a butterfly, hand-signed by legendary Disney animator Marc Davis.

The charming composition recreates the memorable moment from Disney’s 1942 animated classic Bambi in which the young deer encounters a butterfly resting on his tail, while Thumper watches from nearby.

The characters have been produced by the serigraph process, with the individual colours and black outlines screen-printed onto a clear acetate cel. The artwork is presented over a softly coloured background sheet, creating a clean and elegant composition.

The lower-right corner bears a large hand-written signature by Marc Davis in black felt-tip pen. Beside it is the official gold Walt Disney Company seal, which reads:

'1942 The Walt Disney Company – Limited Edition Serigraph – From Original ‘Bambi’ Art.'

This sold-out sericel was originally issued as an unsigned and unnumbered limited edition of 9,500 examples. Signed examples such as the present piece are considerably less commonly encountered. As the edition was unnumbered, no individual edition number appears on the artwork.

Marc Davis (1913–2000) was one of Walt Disney’s celebrated “Nine Old Men” and was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1989. He worked on the story sketches and character development for Bambi and played an important role in developing the young Bambi and Thumper. Davis later animated many celebrated Disney characters and also contributed to classic Disneyland attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion.
