Vintage Messing Wandbel – Horseshoe Shape – Pull Chain Mechanism – c. 1960–1970

A particularly decorative and fully mechanical wall bell in the shape of a large horseshoe, made of warm gold-colored metal with a substantial brass-colored bell in the center. A fine vintage object in which functionality and decoration come together beautifully.

The horseshoe forms the striking front of the construction and is covered with a cast, hand-forged-looking texture across the entire surface. Eight raised square “nails” reinforce the reference to a traditional horseshoe. The same texture repeats on the long vertical wall plate and the horizontal supports, making the whole a single, unified design.

Centered hangs the clock-shaped bell with a wide profiled rim. Inside lies the clapper. The mechanism is moved via the long metal pull chain, after which the bell actually sounds. At the top there is also a metal pull/return spring that helps to bring the moving part back to its starting position after use.
