Baker & Walsh - Kitchen scale (5) - Metal, Iron

This is a British-style model, manufactured by the famous brand W. & T. Avery Ltd. or under a similar patent, as indicated by the inscription “TO WEIGH” engraved on the mechanism. The historical peculiarity of this object lies in the molded “NAAFI” mark on its cast base, referencing the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes, the government-created official body to run canteens and shops for the armed forces. This scale was very probably used in a military mess or on an army base in the mid-20th century. It is cast iron.
