Description
Beautifully and richly decorated antique ink set, made in a copper alloy, presumably brass or bronze.
The ink set features a particularly detailed Neo-Renaissance design. At both ends are classical female mascarons, combined with fantastical animals, floral ornaments, scrollwork and shell motifs.
In the center is the round ink pot with a hinged lid. The interior shows a distinct green/blue oxidation, appropriate to the age and the metal used.
Stylistically and in execution it dates to the second half of the 19th century, circa 1870–1900.
The whole item is in authentic, unrestored condition with a fine old patina. There are signs of use and aging, discoloration and oxidation. These have deliberately not been removed and contribute to the object's historical character.
