Charming vintage carved wooden horse sculpture, entirely hand-painted in a distinctive folk-art style. The horse has an elegant elongated neck and stylised facial features, finished in an aged cream/white colour with black detailing and a contrasting deep red saddle.
The considerable wear to the painted surface, including losses, rubbing, scratches and patination, gives the horse a particularly attractive primitive and time-worn decorative character. The underside shows the hand-worked wooden construction. There is a small hole in the saddle and another opening underneath, possibly connected with its original construction or use.
