Hand-carved wooden printing block with a sunburst pattern, mounted on a modern iron stand, circa 1950s from Asia (likely India), in good used condition with small signs of age and stains; dimensions approximately 25 cm high, 14 cm wide and 7 cm deep, base is new.
Description from the seller
Beautiful decorative wooden stamp block, also known as a printing block. Probably from India, 1950s–1960s. The base is new.
This type of hand-carved tool is traditionally used for printing on textiles (as in block printing or batik) or pottery.
The displayed object has the following features.
Material and technique: It is hand-carved from a solid piece of hardwood, with a deep relief to transfer ink or paint well onto the fabric.
Pattern: The block features a repeating geometric sunflower or sunburst motif (sunburst pattern). The deep notches in the center of each pattern often helped to remove excess ink or served as a reference point for the craftsman.
Presentation: The antique block is mounted on a modern iron stand. This gives it a new function as a unique decorative art object or display piece for the interior.
Dimensions: approximately 25 cm high, 14 cm wide and 7 cm deep.
Condition: in good condition, of course with signs of use.
Photos are part of the description. These were taken under artificial lighting, so colors may vary. Mood impressions are shown.
It is well packaged and sent by registered mail.
