The piece was found in the ancient Roman city of Tarraco (Tarragona, today in Spain). This head represents the Emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius. Successor of Antoninus Pius, it culminates in the so-called Golden Age of the Roman Empire, reigning between 161-180 AD. His historical philosophical formation allowed him to face a difficult realm, marked by invasions, epidemics and betrayals by his generals. He carried out administrative reforms for the benefit of the most needy sectors of society. During the arduous military campaigns, he wrote his philosophical work in Greek, Meditations.
The original piece is kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona, in Spain, in the ancient Roman city.
